Mozambique starts 100-ton citrus export harvest

More than 100 tons of citrus fruits are set for harvest in the orchards of Verdant Citrus Massingir, located in the Gaza province of southern Mozambique. Beyond meeting local market needs, these citrus fruits are poised for export to the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, China, and South Africa.

The announcement, made on June 21 by Roberto Albino, Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries, marked the launch of the harvest campaign at Verdant Citrus Massingir situated in the Massingir district. This move is seen as indicative of Mozambique's capabilities in citrus production.

Minister Roberto Albino acknowledged existing challenges. He remarked on issues facing operators, citing electricity supply, access roads, and administrative bureaucracy as areas needing governmental review and potential intervention.

Verdant Citrus Massingir cultivates on 280 hectares, with potential plans for future expansion of production capacity.
