Minister Do Duc Duy of Agriculture and Environment led a team to meet with the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) to address trade bottlenecks in agricultural and aquatic exports, focusing on durian shipments and the upcoming 2025 lychee season.
Both parties agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation. Immediate steps include resolving obstacles affecting Vietnam's durian exports and ensuring seamless customs procedures for lychees during peak season. They also plan to expedite technical negotiations and streamline processes for other Vietnamese agricultural products.
An annual ministerial-level dialogue mechanism will be established to address emerging trade issues. China will send an expert team to Vietnam for on-site inspections of pomelo and lime production areas. Draft export protocols are being developed, and agreements on Vietnamese wild-caught and fresh seafood exports to China are to be finalized.
A joint decision was made to establish a "green channel" for fast-tracking the clearance of fresh fruit during peak harvest periods. Extended customs working hours, including weekends and after-hours operations, will accommodate seasonal trade increases.
Data from Vietnam's General Department of Customs shows exports of agricultural, forestry, and fishery products to China at approximately $5.07 billion in the first four months of 2025, a 3.7% increase year-on-year. 28 memorandums and trade protocols have been established, supporting ongoing collaboration.
