Estonian strawberries will soon appear at Tallinn and Tartu markets

In contrast, Joosepi farm in Ahja is preparing to distribute its first strawberries to markets in Tartu and Tallinn shortly. Ranet Roositalu, a farmer at Joosepi, highlighted the challenges posed by inconsistent weather, necessitating additional heating to ready the strawberries for market. Additionally, Joosepi farm is cultivating raspberries, aiming for an earlier harvest by the end of May and June, thanks to protective heating measures against spring night frosts.

"Spring night frosts – we don't have to worry about these, because we have the heating on, our raspberry plants are nice and warm, no frost damage. If raspberries usually come at the end of July or the beginning of August, then when the strawberry season is over, we are now aiming for harvests raspberries earlier, at the end of May and the end of June," Roositalu said.
