Odisha FPOs enter global markets with first export of mangoes and vegetables

In Odisha, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) have initiated their first commercial export of fresh mangoes and vegetables, marking a significant step towards global market integration.

This development is the result of a collaboration among the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the state Directorate of Horticulture, and Palladium, serving as the technical support unit for the 'Promotion and Stabilisation of Farmer Producer Organisations (PSFPO)' project.

On May 15, a shipment of 0.75 tons of fresh vegetables was dispatched to Dubai from the Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneshwar, with 0.5 MT originating from the Madanamohana Farmers Producer Cooperative Society Ltd, an FPO based in Dhenkanal district. Additionally, 1.22 tons of Amrapali and Dussehri mangoes were exported to Italy. This venture has enabled farmers to secure 20-30% higher prices in the export markets compared to domestic sales.
