Commerce Minister Phumtham Wechayachai is set to lead a delegation from April 27-29 to the Boten checkpoint in Laos and the Mohan checkpoint in China, aiming to support the export of Thai fruit to China for the 2024 harvest. The delegation will evaluate the checkpoints' readiness for exporting durian, mangosteen, longan, and more via the R3A route from Chiang Khong, Chiang Rai to Kunming, China.
This route, covering approximately 1,240 kilometers, is considered the shortest. Additionally, Phumtham's visit includes meetings in China's Yunnan province with local officials to discuss trade expansion and expedite the import process for dates, snake fruit, and live cattle from Thailand.
The minister will also engage with Chinese investors interested in sectors such as real estate, hotels, tourism, and technology in Thailand, focusing on the importation of agricultural products, beverages, and consumer goods. "The minister is working to promote Thai exports. This trade mission not only enhances confidence for Thai businesses in terms of shipping their fruit abroad via checkpoints in Laos and China, but should also help increase exports of agricultural and livestock products in the future," stated ministry spokesman Wittayakorn Maneenetr.
