Kazakhstan: Jetysay farmers export first cabbage harvest

Jetysay District in Turkestan is an agricultural hub, with the primary source of income stemming from the agricultural sector.

The "Myrza Ata" farm has begun exporting its first cabbage harvest to Russia. They cultivate the "Makako" cabbage variety, known for its quick maturity in just 60 days. This type of cabbage is in high demand in restaurants and cafes, commanding a price of €0.37 per kilogram.

According to Nuratas Tursynbekov, the head of the Department of Agriculture and Land Relations of the Jetysay District, this year, 1200 hectares are slated for early cabbage planting, with an estimated yield of 36,000 tons. The majority of the produced cabbage varieties include "Zarisma," "Valikor," "Magnus," "Kevin Pharao," "Rinda," "Zakaz," and "Makako."

Last year, farmers in the district planted cabbage on 1200 hectares and yielded 41,000 tons. Most of the early cabbage is exported to Russia, Belarus, and European countries.

This year, agricultural crops will occupy 79,200 hectares in the district, with 19,000 hectares allocated for melons, 3,500 hectares for vegetables, and the rest for cotton and fodder crops.
