The Peanut and Tree Nut Processors Association (PTNPA) recently conducted an international trade mission in Côte d'Ivoire, engaging with key figures in the cashew processing sector, government officials, and business leaders. This visit aimed at facilitating information exchanges and fostering stronger ties within the global nut industry. The PTNPA was invited by the Cotton and Cashew Council of Côte d'Ivoire, with PTNPA CEO Jeannie Shaughnessy leading the delegation, accompanied by Losseni Kone from Ivory Cashew and PTNPA member Michael Coughlin.
During the visit, Shaughnessy highlighted the importance of food safety, open markets, and international collaboration for the industry's growth. The mission included detailed discussions on food safety systems, particularly the requirements of the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and explored opportunities for business expansion in U.S. markets. Ivory Coast, a significant cashew producer aiming to boost its output by 50% by 2030, was the focal point of these interactions.
Joel Perkins, PTNPA chair, emphasized the visit's role in connecting with an emerging market, sharing industry best practices, and identifying new business opportunities. The initiative is seen as a step towards enhancing PTNPA's global presence and understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the nut industry worldwide.
