A total of 15 cooperatives in the province of Granada have kicked off the green asparagus season with good production forecasts thanks to recent rainfall.
The cooperatives, concentrated in the Poniente area of Granada and the Vega de Granada, started harvesting at various agricultural operations a few days ago, and the facilities are already beginning to receive produce for processing and marketing.
These days, fruit shops and supermarket shelves are already offering this product, whose collection and handling generate activity and employment in the Granada cooperatives after the summer's decrease in activity.
Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Granada has reminded us that 80% of the green asparagus harvested in the province comes from cooperatives and that the province accounts for 70% of the national production of green asparagus.
The representative of the asparagus sector in the Federation of Cooperatives, José Ángel Delgado, commercial manager of Los Gallombares, has reported that the product is starting to arrive and it is expected that in the first weeks of April, the cooperatives will be operating at full capacity.
