Malaysia is on track to experience a significant increase in durian production in the coming months, influenced by the recent climatic conditions. The state of Pahang, in particular, has observed early blooming of durian flowers due to the hot weather, suggesting that the region might witness three harvest cycles until July.
This phenomenon is expected to stabilize, if not reduce, durian prices. Notably, the Musang King variety is projected to have a plentiful yield in July within Pahang. The elevated temperatures have necessitated continuous irrigation efforts across durian plantations, employing water pumps to sustain the crops. Alvin Yap, the president of Pahang's fruit farmers' association, highlighted the beneficial impact of the hot weather on the flowering of durian plants, anticipating bumper crops in July and August. Additionally, efforts are underway to attract more tourists to Pahang's durian plantations through collaborations with tour agencies.
