Ukraine advances apple cultivation with Gala, Red Jonaprinz, Fuji, and Red Chief

In Lviv region, Ukraine, the "Flora-Zahid" farm pioneers innovation in apple cultivation. Recognising the necessity of adapting to change, they've embraced high-intensity orchards on V-shaped trellises, as shared by Director Oleksandr Levosyuk.

Since 2009, "Flora-Zahid" has specialised in apple cultivation, initially planting popular varieties like Florina, Idared, Eliza, and Golden. In 2018, they underwent varietal replacement, introducing Gala, Red Jonaprinz, Fuji, and Red Chief across 40 hectares, with Red Jonaprinz as the predominant variety.

Oleksandr Levosyuk highlights Red Jonaprinz for its high market demand and superior taste, asserting its position as their top variety. In selecting varieties for industrial cultivation, they prioritise factors such as yield, disease resistance, and marketability, consulting with experts and analysing market trends.

Leading in yield at "Flora-Zahid" are Gala and Red Jonaprinz, sourced from Polish nurseries.

Strategically situated near the Kyiv-Chop highway, approximately 30 km from Lviv and 60 km from Poland, "Flora-Zahid" benefits from convenient logistics.

The farm's convenient geographic location, coupled with favourable ecological conditions, minimises the risk of crop loss due to adverse weather conditions.
