The Phytosanitary Inspection of Republika Srpska recently enforced a ban on two shipments of strawberries, totaling 1,370 kilograms, from Albania due to detected elevated levels of pesticides. This action aligns with the Inspectorate's commitment to rigorous seasonal monitoring of fruit and vegetable imports, with strawberries currently under heightened scrutiny.
The primary hazards identified in such imports include unacceptable levels of pesticides, mycotoxins, and heavy metals. To ensure compliance, each imported fruit consignment must be accompanied by a health certification and documentation from the exporting country's authorized institution. This measure follows a previous prohibition last month on a 1,260-kilogram strawberry shipment from Albania, marking a total of three disallowed shipments owing to pesticide concerns.
