The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has successfully facilitated the export of a 20-ton consignment of bananas to Russia, marking a significant stride in agricultural export dynamics. This initiative, carried out by M/s. Gurukrupa Corporation Pvt. Ltd., a Mumbai based exporter, underscores a collaborative effort with the Central Institute of Sub-tropical Horticulture (CISH) to maintain the fruit's quality during transit through the development of a novel sea protocol.
APEDA's Chairman, Shri Abhishek Dev, emphasized the organization's commitment to pioneering new export methodologies and destinations, alongside providing financial assistance, particularly to women entrepreneurs. This export venture aligns with Russia's growing interest in Indian tropical fruits, diversifying its import sources beyond traditional suppliers like Ecuador. India, despite being the leading global producer of bananas, accounts for a mere 1% of the international export market, highlighting the potential for growth in this sector.
