Eco-friendly packaging launched

Quebec-based Cascades Inc. has introduced new produce basket designs for the produce sector. Crafted from up to 100% recycled fibers, these baskets provide a sustainable alternative to conventional, difficult-to-recycle packaging, according to the company.

Cascades asserts that the packaging aligns with "recognized eco-design principles" and supports a circular economy. The use of recycled and recyclable corrugated cardboard reduces the environmental impact and satisfies consumer demand for eco-friendly packaging.

The company highlights that the innovative design prevents product handling by consumers and ensures the integrity of fruits and vegetables throughout the logistics chain. The packaging features a closure system that secures the products without compromising visibility.

"These new corrugated basket formats for fresh fruit and vegetables enhance our innovative product offering for the produce sector while allowing us to continue to meet the highest standards of environmental responsibility," states Charles Malo, president and COO of Cascades Containerboard Packaging.

Available in two models and four sizes, these baskets cater to a range of fruits and vegetables. The customization options provide a competitive edge, and high-quality printing options enhance brand visibility on the shelf, adds the company.
