Shipments grew by 81.25% compared to the same month last year

The EU's orange imports from South Africa increased in July

In a new report on Enhanced Monitoring of Citrus Imports by the EU, the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food updated the figures recorded up to the month of July.

Regarding oranges, in the 2022/23 season, a total of 893,236 tons were imported between September and July; this is 42.2% more than in the same period of the 2021/22 campaign (+265,000t) and 20.2% (150,000t) more than the average.

The main supplier during that period is Egypt, with 50.9% of the total and a rise of 17 points in its share; in fact, the volumes coming from this country exceed the average by 82.5% (+205,700 tons). Next in the ranking is South Africa, with a share of 38.3%, and although its share is down by 2 points, its volume has grown by 14.4% (+43,100 tons) compared to the average. Morocco, on the other hand, has seen a significant drop in its supplies (-81.1%, -48,500 t), the report says.
