Mauritius: 25% average drop in prices for imported fruits

As the heat rises on the island, Mauritians can enjoy tasty fruits at lower prices.

During the summer, local fruits are very popular. Locals prefer litchis and pineapple to apples and orange, which explains the drop in prices for imported fruits. "Every year, it's the same thing. During the local fruit season, imported fruits lose value in the market. As a result, farmers prefer to lower the prices to move sales, "says Isoop Soobadur, president of the Market Traders' Association.

Prices of imported fruits have dropped by an average of 25%. The biggest change is noted in the price of kiwis. The price went from Rs 25 to Rs 15 or Rs 20 currently. For apples, the decrease amounts to approximately 15%.
