Spain: Losses of millions in the agricultural sector due to fires

The devastating fires last week on 50,000 hectares in the Valencia Community had quite negative effects in the agricultural sector.

According to a first evaluation made by the technical services at the Valencia Association of Farmers (AVA-ASAJA) points to direct damages above 21 million Euro.

From the area destroyed by the flames, mainly in areas close the Andilla, Cortes de Pallás or Alcublas, about 850 hectares correspond to agricultural fields, affected in a bigger or smaller level, but representing a loss value above 12.7 million Euro.

Cultivations that were the most affected by these disasters were: almond, carob tree, olive, vineyards, and in a smaller extent, citrus, fruit trees, khaki and ornamental plants.
