Mission Produce, Inc., a grower, packer and marketer of fresh Hass avocados, said it is shaking things up on Black Friday this year by “turning it green.” This week, Mission Produce announced its “after Thanksgiving” campaign dubbed #GreenFriday. This is a social media and retail program designed to promote the usage of avocados in Thanksgiving leftover meals.
According to the company, over the past two years, U.S. shoppers have increasingly consumed avocados the week following Thanksgiving. “We have noticed that Americans are eating more avocados during this time frame and Mission Produce’s retail partners have profited from it,” stated senior director of business development, Patrick Cortes. “Due to an ample supply of avocados and the opportunity to push a hot item, retailers experienced a 30 percent lift by promoting avocados after Thanksgiving.”

Recognizing trends, Mission Produce paired up with social media influencer @TheModernProper to help this post-Thanksgiving program. @TheModernProper created four unique recipes and will post them on social media on #GreenFriday. All of these recipes incorporate Thanksgiving leftovers and emphasize avocados as the feature ingredient. Mission Produce will also share the recipes on all of its social media channels throughout #GreenFriday and the week subsequent Thanksgiving. Director of marketing, Denise Junqueiro, says, “After a long day of Black Friday shopping, I am looking forward to #GreenFriday. What better way to end the day than with turkey taquitos paired with avocado crema?”
U.S. consumers are searching for ways to flavor their Thanksgiving leftovers, and Mission Produce says avocados make the perfect ingredient. “Our #GreenFriday campaign offers retailers a great way to promote avocados after Thanksgiving. Black Friday is America’s day of discounts and Mission Produce’s #GreenFriday program is one of the best deals around,” concludes Junqueiro.
