Leda Maersk calls at Sydney for 25-year celebrations

Having carried more than 3.5 million star-branded containers to and from Australia since 1993 and, bearing a capacity of 4,401 TEU, the Leda Maersk called at Sydney earlier this week for its 25th anniversary.

The Leda Maersk is deployed on Maersk Line’s ‘Southern Star’ service which calls between South East Asia-Australia-New Zealand on a weekly, fixed day schedule. The vessel is especially geared for reefer containers with a higher-than-average plug count for a vessel of this size, 1100 to be exact. It is used to transport food items and household and industrial products from overseas to Australian consumers and manufacturers, and prime-grade beef, wine, dairy, fruit and grain from Australia to the rest of the world.

This week marked a significant milestone for Maersk which was celebrated with a customer event at Patricks Terminal, where the company expressed gratitude to customers and suppliers for the close working partnerships that spans two and a half decades. The Sydney event included a guided tour of the Leda Maersk, led by Captain Kim M. Huus, and followed by a celebratory dinner.

“We are immensely honoured to have played an active part in the growth of this diverse and passionately engaged industry for more than two and half decades,” says Gerard Morrison, Maersk Line Oceania Managing Director.
