Turkey to grow tomatoes and tropical fruits in Sudan

Turkey has been directing its focus to African countries to improve trade relations with African countries as a result of the directive given by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

As a result of these efforts. Turkish government and private enterprises signed a 99 year lease contract with the Sudanese government to grow agricultural products in Sudan. The land is around 8 billion square feet in size and the plan is to grow tomato, eggplant and tropical fruits which cannot be grown in Turkey and to bring them into Turkey at cheap prices. Some of the products which are planned to be grown are pineapple, mango, avocado, canola and cotton.

On the other hands. Turkey will also set up an exemplary production farm in Sudan on an area of 12 billion square feet. This farm will serve as an example for many private enterprises which are looking to invest in Sudan.

Currently the trade volume between both countries is around 500 million USD but with these developments, the trade volume is expected to double next year and hit 10 billion USD within a few years.
