"Hebei fresh pear production volume down 60%-70% this season"

"The cold current that hit China on April 6th and 7th, 2018, as well as the large hailstorm in Hebei more than a month ago, have severely damaged fresh pear production in Hebei. The Huangguan pear production areas suffered the most severe damage. It is estimated that the pear production in Hebei will decrease by as much as 60%-70% this year in comparison with the same period last year." This is according to Wang Wang of Zhao County Weiming Specialized Pear Cooperation.

"Hebei is generally acknowledged as a production area of top-quality pears, and the annual production volume is huge. The area is also responsible for the majority of China's pear export. The significantly reduced supply volume of pears this year will increase the price of pears, in particular for top-quality pears. The retail conditions will be hectic.

"We are located in Xinji, Hebei. Our main product varieties include Huangguan [Imperial Crown], Qing Baoshi [Green Jewel], and New Pear No. 7. The production season begins every year around July and lasts until late September. We mainly sell fresh pears in wholesale markets and supermarkets in Yunnan under our own brand name 'Da'an'. In the future, while we steadily develop the Yunnan pear market, we also hope to expand the market for Xinji pears in other areas."
