China: First jujubes enter the market in Hangzhou

The first harvest of jujubes recently entered the market in Hangzhou. Based on previous years, it is safe to say that jujubes are a seasonal autumn fruit. They normally enter the market in July or August at the earliest. This year jujubes entered the market much earlier. The jujubes currently on the market mainly come from Shaanxi.

The jujubes currently on the market were grown in greenhouses. They are very sweet because this is the first crop of the year. The production volume, however, is relatively small. The wholesale price and the market price are therefore relatively high. Jujubes are grown in greenhouses, coolhouses, and open fields. The cost price of greenhouse jujubes is the highest, but the flavor is the best. The cost price of open-field jujubes is the lowest, but their appearance and flavor are not great. Their price is therefore cheap.

The wholesale price of one 2 kg box of Shaanxi Dali jujubes is currently around 200 yuan [30.75 USD]. The price will certainly go down somewhat after a while, but not too much. Consumers who wish to eat cheap jujubes will have to wait another two months when the open-field jujubes arrive on the market.
