Even though the price is low, garlic traders do not want to leave the industry

China: Too many garlic traders

"The garlic harvest season of 2018 is over. We began the harvest in late May, which is two weeks earlier than last year. Our production volume is also larger than last year. The main reason for this development is an expansion of the surface area devoted to garlic plantation. The overall quality of our garlic is not bad. Some of the seedlings died, but that was only a small proportion." This is according to Bi Zhou, Sales Manager at Jining Land Produce Co., Ltd. His story describes the current conditions on the Chinese garlic market very well. The production volume is much larger than last year.

"It is difficult to say what the garlic price will be in 2019. Perhaps the price will remain low, or it might rise. But the garlic production volume will certainly continue to increase. If garlic farmers are enthusiastic enough with current prices and their income this year is sufficient, then they will certainly expand their garlic plantations," said Bi Zhou. The increased production volume creates much pressure on the garlic market. However, Bi Zhou states that "there are too many garlic traders, but not many of them wish to leave the industry. Our company is able to take good care of our own customers despite fierce market competition. We strictly control the quality of the products we deliver, and that is how we compete with other companies."
