Fifa 2018

Fruit shaker with national colours to cheer the Swedish team

Summer means barbecues in Sweden and June 2018 will be especially filled with celebrations because along with midsummer, the Swedish National team will also be vying for a chance to win the FIFA 2018 World Cup.

To help show their support, Hebes has released a new fruit shaker, filled with fruits that are the same colours as the Swedish flag, pineapple, blueberries and Piel de sapo melon, yellow and blue. The shakers are called 'Heja Sverige-bägare' which translated into English means, 'cheer for Sweden'!

Anita Jansson from Hebes said that they are actively promoting healthy snacks for fans who are watching the International football match, "We hope that people will choose snack fruits, like stone fruits, berries, melons etc instead of peanuts and chips and we have been doing everything we can to encourage it."

Midsummer is also quickly approaching and strawberries are considered a vital part of the celebrations and used in desserts after the midsummer buffet.

"As we reported a few weeks ago, the warm weather has meant that our big volumes of strawberry harvest started earlier than usual and with the peak of the harvest happening last week, we are worried that we might not be able to supply the enormous midsummer demand. We don´t know yet how the early, massive ripening of the strawberries is going to effect the volumes later on. We could see a big shortage of strawberries and an early end of the season. The weather has cooled down bit over the last week, which could slow down the harvest. This year has been the warmest spring in 100 years," explains Anita.

"We still have hopes of supplying Swedish strawberries, but we've secured some smaller volumes of Belgian berries just to be sure that all of the midsummer demand is met. The prices in Europe have been rising quickly, after they have also had warm weather and volumes are starting to decrease."

Come rain or shine, Anita said that Swedes barbecue, no matter what, in the summer and demand for certain fruits and vegetables reflects this.

"Vegetables like fresh corn, fresh onions, aubergine, zucchini, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes, pepper, asparagus and tomatoes are in high demand during this time of year."
