China: Luzhou lychees and longans face reduced production in 2018

The production volume of lychees and longans in Luzhou will likely decrease this year as a result of weather conditions. The fruit suffered from various degrees of frostbite as a result of a short-term drop in temperature, while the sharp increase of temperature since the beginning of spring has caused the longan trees to favor leaves over flowers. Although a drop in temperatures stimulated the growth of flowers later in spring, their quality was not great. The production volume of lychee and longan is therefore likely to be reduced this year. However, the opposite is true for citrus and plums. Their flowers were great and the fruit develops well. It is estimated that their production volumes will increase.
