"Hans van Helvoirt: "We focus on taste buyers"

Portuguese oranges still available for 6 - 8 weeks

There are not many people providing Portuguese citrus to the Dutch market. However, Hans van Helvoirt from the Dutch town of Brakel has made it his speciality. Years ago he was on holiday in the Portuguese region of Algarve. There he walked into a packing station. Within a few hours, Goldra Citrus was born. Hans supplies this Portuguese citrus to various wholesalers, speciality shops, and market traders.

"There are fewer oranges in Spain. The season in Portugal will, however, continue for at least six to eight weeks. These are for the Lane Late and Valencia Late varieties. We offer these until June/July", says Hans. "There is great demand for this citrus every week, mainly in the southern region of the Netherlands. In North Holland quality is highly valued."

"We are focusing on taste buyers and buyers who are looking for a tasty orange to eat and sell. We also have lemons available. I call traders who are not familiar with Portuguese citrus. They must come and taste why oranges and mandarins from Portugal are so tasty."
