"China: "Hainan Guifei mangoes enter the market"

"Hainan Guifei mangoes are also called Red Golden Dragons. Their appearance differs from the majority of mangoes as the peel is bright green but penetrated with red and when the fruit matures yellow comes through. It is sufficiently juicy and the taste is praised by consumers far and wide. Our Guifei mangoes entered the market on March 10th. The supply season lasts until the middle of May." This is according to Mr. Wu Bin (Rain) of Qionghai Juewan Fruit and Vegetable Production and Marketing Agricultural Cooperation, who spoke to an interviewer from Fresh Plaza.

"The main production areas of Guifei mangoes are located in Sanya, Hainan; Panzhihua, Sichuan; and several places in Yunnan. In all honesty, the production quality of the first two production areas is even better. Furthermore, the periods in which they enter the market are staggered, which effectively lengthens the period in which this product is available in markets throughout the country."

"Among these production areas, the Guifei mangoes from the Hainan production area enter the market first. This year there was already a small volume on the market before the Spring Festival. The maturation of these mangoes, however, was manually accelerated. They did not ripen under natural conditions. The weather conditions in Hainan this past year have been stable. The production volume of Guifei mangoes this year will be on the same level as last year."

"As far as the price is concerned, the opening market price this year slightly increased in comparison with last year. The wholesale market price exceeded 15 yuan [2.37 USD] per 0.5 kg. The price will slowly decrease daily following the increased production volume of Hainan Guifei mangoes. It is estimated that the market price will stabilize at a reasonable level around the beginning of April."

"We work together with the Lei Feng Cooperation on a 27 hectares plantation located in Jishui and Sanya to research and develop, cultivate, and retail new varieties of mango. We selected Lei Feng out of all the agricultural cooperations because Lei Feng is the only one in Hainan to possess GAP and PEOP authenticated cooperation structures. This guarantees the taste and food safety of our mangoes."

"In this stage the 'Mykio & Lei Feng' Gui Fei mangoes are predominantly sold through B2B channels via e-commerce platforms and such high-end supermarkets as OLE, Citysuper, and Cityshop in such cities as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong, and Shenzhen. We promote two different kinds of packaging to satisfy the demands of various consumers: one kind is aimed at batch sales in community shops and via micro-traders, high-end supermarkets, and high-quality community stores. This is a 2 kg family bag. The other kind is aimed at e-commerce platforms and chain stores. This is a large 5 kg bag."
