Indian company wins award for packaging solution

The Indian company Uflex was presented with an award for its patented Flexfresh solution by the All India Management Association (AIMA). The award was given during the 7th Innovation Practitioners Summit, which was held on the 15th of December. 

Flexfresh is a polymeric film, which works on the principle of Active Modified Atmospheric Packaging (AMAP). Produce packaged in Flexfresh is kept dry, as the film maintains the humidity of the contents at around 95% and prevents condensation. The packaging also maintains a proper ratio between oxygen and carbon dioxide, which makes the produce more resistant against fungi such as grey mould. As such, Flexfresh is a packaging solution that guarantees freshness for produce like flowers, fruits and vegetables. Flexfresh Film is biodegradable and complies with all international regulations for export.

According to the jury of the AIMA, Flexfresh has tremendous potential for the export of fresh produce. The packaging solution gives exporters more opportunities to lower theirs costs by switching from expensive air freight to cost effective sea freight. The jury also noted how Flexfresh could be used to combat food waste. Furthermore, the jury was enthusiastic of the biodegradable aspects of the packaging solution.

On behalf of Uflex, the award was accepted by vice president Siva Shankaran. “For every percentage reduction in fruit and vegetable wastage, India could save INR 290 Crore i.e. USD 44 Million which in turn would add to the farmers’ income and help grow the GDP,” said Shankaran.

Uflex is India’s largest provider of flexible packaging materials. The company was founded in 1985 and has since then it has developed as a global player. The company currently has manufacturing facilities in India, the UAE, Mexico Egypt, Poland and the US and provides its packaging materials to markets such as North and South America, the EU, Russia, South Africa and Asia.
