Last week, the price of pomelos remained steady. Now the supply is at its peak, with so pomelos available everywhere and many varieties to choose from.
Compared to a few weeks ago, the pomelos now are more juicy and sweet and taste better. During the national holiday last week, retailers promoted their pomelos with new branding, including gift packs, which has pushed up packaging costs.
Because of the bigger supply from the major production areas, the overall volume available in the market went up by 1/3, causing fierce competition among retailers. Unlike other fruits, the price of pomelos remained steady during the holiday, so sales kept growing. After the holidays, there were fewer gift packs, bringing down packaging costs. The price is expected to fall soon as supplies keeps growing.
