Wholesale Market of Barcelona:

"All activities have continued as they usually do in August"

The terrorist attack that took place last Thursday in the Ramblas of Barcelona, which took the life of 14 innocents and left more than 100 wounded, has heavily hit the heart of all Spaniards.

Thousands of people, including the highest authorities, filled the Plaza de Catalunya on Friday to pay homage to the victims and condemn the attack, shouting together "no tinc por," which in Catalan means "I am not afraid." Applause and cheers intermingled with long moments of silence.

Mercabarna and Mercabarna-Flor, the wholesale markets for fresh produce in Barcelona, have also condemned the attack and offered their full support to the relatives of the victims, joining the minute of silence.

According to Mercabarna sources, "despite the consternation of sellers and buyers, the market's commercial activity has continued its course normally, as it usually does in August; a month which is usually quieter, coinciding with many people's holidays. Even so, like all citizens of Barcelona, we are all appalled."

Everyone at FreshPlaza would like to express their deepest condolences to the relatives of the people killed, and wish a speedy recovery to the more than 100 wounded. We also strongly condemn this attack and all other terrorist attacks taking place across the world.
