The ALDI Bistro is moving on

With a final concert of the Cologne-based rock band CAT BALLOU, the ALDI Bistro said goodbye to Cologne on the weekend. After about three months at the Mediapark, the new concept will be continued in Munich, starting from early September.

The stay in Cologne began just as spectacularly as it ended festively. The opening in April was followed by an outright visitor rush. Daily changing menus made from fresh ingredients from the product range of ALDI, coffee from their in-house roastery as well as selected wines attracted many visitors to the bistro, especially during lunch time and the later afternoon. On average, 350 to 450 people visited the bistro every day.

The feedback for the freshly prepared meals, the free recipe booklets and the lovely design of the bistro, was particularly positive. Many visitors, some of whom came out of their way to see the bistro, used it as a meeting-point or as an opportunity to take a break or have some wine in the pleasant atmosphere of the location. "From early on, the ALDI Bistro was very popular. Visitors valued the ambience, fresh ingredients and the great price-performance ratio of the meals," says Sandra-Sibylle Schoofs, director of marketing for ALDI SÜD.

The meal plan showed which delicious meals can be made from the product range of ALDI SÜD, and how great food does not necessarily have to be overly expensive or complicated. The most popular dish was a pollack fillet with potato-cucumber-salad, a curry-vegetable soup with coconut milk as an appetizer, and for the desert vanilla-curd with fresh strawberries. Roasted steak strips on tomatoes and bell peppers with ribbon noodles, a mushroom-cream-soup and yoghurt with fresh raspberries and grated chocolate were number one for meat dishes.

All drinks were also provided from the product range of the chain. The most popular wines were the African Rock Sauvignon Blanc, the rosé Coteaux D‘Aix en Provence as well as the red wine Frescobaldi 1300 Toscana. Water and Fassbrause, a soft drink stored in a keg, available in different fruit and spice flavours, were the most popular non-alcoholic drinks. The meal plan which was changed daily and a number of events attracted many visitors - a arts and crafts day in preparation for Mother's Day with TV-host Sonya Kraus, the 'Ladies Run' with 'Germany's Next Topmodel'-winner Barbara Meier, an exclusive barbeque event with Argentine master chef and author "Chakall". "We are happy about the extremly positive reception and that people were convinced by the concept of 'Indulgence can be this easy'," says Schoofs.

Now the indulgence journey is moving on: After the great feedback in the metropolis of the West, the ALDI Bistro is travelling to the South of Germany. After "Tschö Cologne" it is now "Servus Munich": Starting from September, the bistro will be located in the capital of Bavaria for about three months. There it will show its visitors how fresh the high-quality products of ALDI SÜD are.
