High volume of Israeli mangoes

The Israeli mango season is in full swing now. “The volume increased, but sizes at the beginning of the season are smaller than the last season,” explains Gil Ben-Moshe from Hefer Valley. “We hope to see the bigger sizes coming in the next weeks.”

“The demand is very high and the season started very strong,” he continues. Demand is high mainly from Europe but also from North America and other destinations.

“We see more and more that the clients prefer the Israeli varieties - Aya, Maya, Sheli and others over the traditional varieties. Customers are willing to pay a premium for these varieties, as they like the special aroma, sweetness and lack of fibres.”

Prices are higher this season for many reasons. “The Euro versus Shekel exchange rate, the rising costs of the packing materials, water prices. This combination make the cost higher, and the market is willing to compensate for it with improved prices.”
