China enlarges domestic production

China: Vietnamese dragon fruit sales blocked

The Saigon Giai Phong Daily reported on 10 July, that the Asia-Pacific Market Department of the Vietnamese Ministry of Commerce has stated that the Chinese production area for dragon fruit is 36,000 hectares, which is the same as the Vietnamese production area.

In China, Guangxi province's production area is the largest, with approximately 11,000 hectares. The rest is divided over other provinces, such as Guangdong, Guizhou, Hainan, Yunnan and Fujian. In the next few years, the production area and volume will continue to grow. The harvest season of Chinese dragon fruit is between May and November, identical to the Vietnamese harvest season. That is why Vietnamese dragon fruit are no longer allowed to be sold in China. China is the main export market for Vietnamese dragon fruit. Last year, China imported 523,000 tons of dragon fruit, of which 99% came from Vietnam.
