"“Seventy percent of our veg production is tomatoes"

"We started exporting in 2009 when we invested in a packaging facility. At the time, export volume was 8,500 tonnes, and by 2016 it was 45,000 tonnes. Our products are marketed under various brands in France, the Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, Lithuania, Canada and the US. We are currently approaching European markets, such as Italy. If Italy doesn’t have its own production, we can supply Moroccan vegetables. This season starts around September,” says Salma Keroua from the Lymouna-Matysha group. Lymouna is more focussed on citrus and Matysha on tomatoes.

Citrus as well
The Moroccan company Lymouna-Matysha was founded in 1987 and is located in Morocco and France. “One hundred hectares was recently added, and we now have a total area of 340 hectares in the Souss Massa and Taroudant regions in Morocco. Approximately 70 per cent of our vegetable production consists of tomatoes, and additionally, we also produce various other types of vegetables and melons.”

She continues: “We also have a citrus area of 1,200 hectares. We’ve been active in citrus at our location in France for three years now. We export a volume of 40,000 tonnes of this product. We have chosen to grow this product in order to diversify our supply. Our head office in France is in Perpignan, and we have an area of 5,000 square metres there. We offer a wide range of citrus varieties, including the early Clementines, Nour, Nadarcott and Salustiana. We also have Sanguine blood oranges and lemons in our assortment.”
