The Governor of Tucuman, Juan Manzur, stated that Tucuman would send the first tryout shipment to the United States before July, as part of a process in which they would also have talks with importers from that country.
"The US market should be opened to Argentine citrus by June 10 or 12. We could be sending a first trial shipment before July and have conversations with some importers," said the Governor, who also spoke about the lawsuit started by American producers. "We hope there are no problems. This is a political decision of the President of the United States. As such, and in accordance with the documentation and commitment we have from the American Government, we'll proceed with our plans," he said.
Manzur also spoke about the meetings he held in Rio de Janeiro and the opportunities provided by the opening of this market to Tucuman lemons. "We had two meetings, one in Rio, which is a big consumer market for lemon, as it has 16 million inhabitants and is one of the major touristic sites in Latin America; which generated the expectation of creating links. The second meeting was with the Argentine Ambassador in Rio de Janeiro, Carlos MagariƱo, with whom we agreed on a work agenda, not only for citrus, but also for other activities, such as blueberries, strawberries, or grains," said the Governor.
Manzur, who is also Argentina's former Minister of Health, said that it would be organized in the next 30 days. "This is more work for Tucuman, getting new markets and positioning our products there, generates a lot of expectations," he said.
