High priced Hainan lychees enter market

"Hainan lychees usually enter the market between May and the middle of June. The new lychee season has already started, and compared to last year, the market price has gone up approximately 15%," according to Mr. Ma Xinkai from the Beijing Xinkai Trading Co Ltd."

Lychees nurtured by nature

"This year's production volume is 15% to 20% higher than last year's. This is mainly because of the favorable weather, which improves the growth and increases the production volume. Compared to last year, Hainan lychees are entering the market slightly earlier than usual. Generally speaking, the earlier they enter the market, the better the price. The price difference between the earliest and late entries can be over 50%."

"In 2016, China had a warm winter. Moreover, fruit has been selling well through the entire spring of 2017. Add to that the favorable spring and summer, and we can see that the supply tends to stay level. While it is slowly becoming low season, the decrease in the total volume of fruit leaves room for the prices of this season's fruits, such as lychees, to rise. It is estimated that the price of lychees that will enter the market at a later time will still be higher than in previous years."
