China intercepts spotted mango larvae

A few days back, staff members of the Fujian Quanzhou Inspection and Quarantine Bureau intercepted mangoes from a Philippino traveller who had crossed the border. Tests showed that the mangoes were infected with spotted mango larvae. A laboratory test that adopts molecular biology methods to extract DNA from the larvae for sequencing, established with certainty that the larvae were the very harmful spotted mango larvae (Citripestis eutraphera). Afterwards, it was confirmed to be the first time that the Chinese Inspection Institution had intercepted these larvae. It was the second time this year that the Quanzhou bureau had intercepted a plant that contains a harmful insect.
