Zannie Flanagan to speak at Women’s Fresh Perspectives

Empowering women in the Australian and New Zealand fresh produce and floral community is about creating opportunities and strengthening connections. Now in its third year running, the Women’s Fresh Perspectives event is a supportive platform built to connect, inform and cultivate women’s potential within the industry. The event encourages cultural change and the collective genius of different perspectives, experiences, values and priorities.

At this years event, Zannie Flanagan will be speaking. She is a passionate promoter of South Australian regional produce and in particular that of her ‘hood - the Fleurieu Peninsula. In the early ‘80s she restored and managed two restaurants that became famous in the area. Both restaurants were inspired by Zannie’s strong belief that restaurants should reflect the landscape in which they are situated.

Menus were seasonal with an emphasis on regional produce. Zannie also developed a great passion for local olive oil, which was being produced down the road at the McLaren Vale Olive Groves. She was the driving force behind South Australia’s first Farmers Markets - starting the Willunga Farmers Market in 2002 then the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market which she ran for many years. In 2009, she was recognised as a Food Legend by the Advertiser and in 2010 she was awarded the order of Australia for services to the food industry.

It was also announced that Senator, the Hon. Anne Ruston, Assistant Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources, will be attending the Women's Fresh Perspective Breakfast. Born and raised in Renmark – which is situated on the River Murray in South Australia’s Riverland region – Anne is a proud member of the community where she still lives and works to this day.

She is the only Senator for South Australia based in a regional area. Anne is a primary producer and an irrigator, producing commercial cut flowers and implementing irrigation efficiencies on her property that reduced water use by more than 60%. She is a passionate advocate for rural and regional communities and for a balanced approach to water reform in the Murray-Darling Basin.

Women’s Fresh Perspectives delegates will have the opportunity to meet with these influential women for a wonderful morning of inspirational stories and networking. Join us at the Adelaide Central Markets Kitchen for a roaming breakfast on Wednesday 17 May at 8am – 10am. Guest speakers will inspire, the food will entice and the space will foster opportunities. Register today and be a part of building an industry that values and promotes diversity and inclusion as a core business and social value.
