Certification in vegetable cutting improves job opportunities

Desert Farms/Horticola Del Desierto is proud to announce the graduation of 340 employees who have been officially certified in Vegetable Cutting. The company has been promoting this certificate in collaboration with their main alliance the Federal STPS and INCA RURAL (Secretary of Commerce Mexico).

2-month course
Employees can volunteer for the course. “Once enrolled, it takes a bit over two months to prepare them from a theoretical as well as practical perspective,” says Bram Hulshoff with Desert Farms. “We have assigned technical engineers from Mexico City to train the volunteers. They stay with the participants during the length of the course,” he added. “The course is giving during breaks, which merits the employees of having the initiative to study, professionalize their skills and sacrifice spare time investing in their study.”

Recently, 340 farm workers graduated and received their official certificates. A ceremony was held at the Centenario field in Sonora to celebrate the achievement. In addition to the farm workers, also in attendance were several Federal and State Government officials, as well as managers and staff of Desert Farms/Horticola Del Desierto. The official part was followed by a dinner and live music for all graduates.

Identifying skills
“Each year, Horticola Del Desierto/Desert farms offers its employees these benefits,” shared Hulshoff. “We try to create better job opportunities for our employees and with a certificate on hand, they are more likely to get contracted within the agricultural sector.” A certificate makes it easier to identify their skills and experience for a potential employer. During the ceremony, Desert Farms/Horticola Del Desierto was acknowledged for promoting a better quality of life for its work force as well as being a source of employment for more than 3,000 direct jobs.

Every year, the Secretary of Labor opens the certification requests at the national level. This year, 900 applications were opened and 30 percent was remitted to the employees of Horticola Del Desierto/Desert Farms.
