"There are three main reasons for the slow sales. First of all, the two typhoons last year destroyed a large planting area and affected the quality of the fruits harvested this year. Secondly, a large number of quality pineapples from the Philippines were imported this year and took part of the market share after the political and commercial relationship between the two countries improved. Moreover, the quality of the pineapples from Hainan are better than before and their market supply is sufficient."

"Currently prices for Taiwan pineapples are in a disadvantageous position, due to exchange rate fluctuations. The market prices here are much higher than their original prices in Taiwan. This affected sales in Guangdong Province and the area around Shanghai. In addition, it was the rainy season in these two regions a month ago, and the constant rainy weather also slowed sales down."
