Unica Group has just signed the integration of a new cooperative, the Cadiz-based SCA Europeos, which has more than 600 active farming partners, about 300 hectares devoted to green asparagus that yield around 500 tonnes; 4,500 tonnes of cereals, 1.2 million litres of olive oil and 6.5 million kilos of olives. Unica Group became a part of Grupo AN last September.
Prior to the integration of SCA Europeos, Unica Group was already selling green asparagus, which came from Vega de Granada. Now, with the marketing of the products of SCA Europeos, the production of asparagus under the Unica brand will double, reaching 800 tonnes.
"We seek to offer the best service to our large retail customers, and we believe that we can serve them better with more volumes," pointed out Diego Calderón, head of marketing and communications at Unica Group.
"It is a product with growing demand in Europe, based on what our customers have told us; moreover, it is a highly profitable product, so even though the volumes are not that great compared to other products, the revenue generated is interesting," he affirms.
With the integration, SCA Europeos will also enjoy the advantages of being part of Grupo AN, as the latter is a Priority Associative Entity (EAP). This entails more chances to receive aid to investment, marketing, training, R&D&I, ICO credits, etc.
"With an annual growth rate of 20%, Unica Group's project will continue to be fully inclusive and open," pointed out Diego Calderón.
