USA: Aldi invests in new stores

The discount grocery chain Aldi has announced new plans to invest 1.6 billion USD in the conversion and expansion of their existing stores. Furthermore, Aldi also plans to open new stores.

The conversion plans of the already existing Aldi stores should give the customers a new shopping experience. This is in addition to an expansion of the range of fresh produce, such as bakery products and dairy, stated Aldi. Over recent years the range has been expanded with products which are in high demand - such as gluten-free or organic food.

The discount chain is on the rise in the USA. Currently 40 million people shop at Aldi every month. This is an increase of almost 60% compared to 2013. At the moment Aldi has more than 1,600 stores in 35 US states and the opening of an additional 650 stores is planned.
