“During Mexico’s gap in lemon production, we import lemons from Spain,” says Donald Souther with Vision Import Group. “This program supports us in filling customers’ needs year-round. Spanish lemons have been a great addition over the last several years and help our customers keep a consistent flow of quality products as production shifts.” Spain continues to be one of the major suppliers of lemons to Europe and Vision Imports is proud to secure product from Spain into the United States. “We work directly with two growers in Spain, which supports us in standing by our tag line of being the ‘Direct Link to the Grower.”
Smooth transition from Mexico to Spain
“This is our 4th consecutive season importing lemons from Spain,” says Raul Millan with Vision Import Group. “Three weeks ago, the first lemons from Spain arrived in the US and we expect consistent supplies until late May. Rains and cold weather in Spain caused a rough start of the season, but right now the weather is fine for picking,” mentioned Millan. “Initial quality on our first few containers has been excellent and our customers have had a smooth transition from our Mexican program to Spanish lemons.”
"Additional Spanish growing areas will start late March/early April and these lemons will be sold concurrently with our Mexican fruit from Yucatan," mentioned George Uribe.
Currently, Vision is packing in 15 kg. carton boxes and hopes to be able to offer 18 kg. cartons within the next month. The company’s lemons are Cat 1 and stickered (PLU).
