Italy: Carrots from Fondi now available

We are about to pass from summer to autumn-winter carrots. "Produce from Lusia (RO) has almost ended and the first carrots from Fondi (LT) are starting to arrive," explains a wholesaler from Bologna.

Carrots with leaves from Lusia are sold at €5 for 10-bunch crates, while those from Fondi have a quotation of €5.50.

Grades of the produce from Fondi are still small, which is normal, as it is just the beginning of the season.

On the Bologna market, there are also leafless carrots from Abruzzo, sold at 60-70 eurocents/kg for the loose produce or 75-50 eurocents/kg for the packaged produce (500 gram and 1 kg packets).

"It has been a good season so far, better than in the past, when we suffered the pressure of imported carrots from Germany. Luckily, this year, German carrots were small and quality was not excellent."
