Jacques Remy & Fils more than 40 years in Marcinelle

"We invested in a packaging station and fresh-cut production"

The family business Jacques Remy & Fils has remained a family business even after the death of Jacques, three years ago. “The death of our father was very dramatic, but fortunately we are still a family business and we want to keep it that way. My mother, my brothers, and I are definitely optimistic and ambitious; we want to develop our company even further,” says Nicolas Remy of the Walloon company in Marcinelle.

Wholesaler, exporter, importer
Jacques Remy & Fils from Marcinelle, Wallonia, was founded in 1974. “For a few years now, we have been the largest fresh produce company in Wallonia. We are mainly wholesalers and we supply to market vendors, distribution centres, cafes, and restaurants. These are our most important clients. In addition, we export Belgian products to France and Luxembourg. We also import many products from France and Spain.”

Nicolas Remy is owner of the company together with his two brothers. “We have divided our company into three divisions.” First the wholesaler Jacques Remy, second our brand Primabel, and lastly the brand Easy by Primabel. Primabel has been our brand for all pre-packaged products for distribution since 2013. The products for the fresh-cut sector (sliced vegetables) are labelled with Easy by Primabel. The products are sliced and packaged at our own company. We have invested a lot in diversification with a pre-packaging station and the development of fresh-cut during the past few years. Now, we can present the complete assortment of fruits and vegetables to our clients.”

Transport
“The main advantage of our company is that we have a huge flexibility with regard to logistics, transport, and packaging. This is all in our own hands. Concerning quality, we only pick the best products and we regularly test the shelf life of our products.” Nicolas states that they will be investing a lot more in new clients and the development of new markets. “If we keep on growing, we will have to look for extension possibilities, because we have not enough space at the moment to grow further,” concludes Nicolas.
