Argentina opens for Peruvian Hass Avocado

The Ministry of Agriculture and irrigation (Minagri) stated that Peruvian producers could start exporting Hass Avocados to Argentina, which has 42 million potential consumers, after the Senasa and Argentina's health authority had successfully concluded negotiations to do so.

"After having managed to open India's market to Hass avocados, I can now announce that, thanks to the actions taken by the Minagri before the Argentine health authorities, our farmers can now export this fruit to Argentina. This confirms the great quality and good reception that Peruvian products enjoy worldwide," said the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Jose Manuel Hernandez.

The Minister's statements were made after the journey that President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski and a delegation of high officials, including the head of the national plant health service (Senasa), Jorge Barrenechea, made to to China to facilitate exports of blueberries and other Peruvian products to that market.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the country's avocado exports went from 18,700 tons worth 23 million dollars, to 179,000 tons worth more than 306.9 million dollars in 2014, i.e. the export value of avocados increased by 13 times in only a decade.

From January to June 2016, Hass Avocado exports amounted to 250.2 million dollars, 32.4% more than in the same period in 2015, ranking it among the country's top ten exports, along with copper and gold.

Currently, Peruvian Hass Avocados reach 58 countries around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom, VietNam, Canada, and other countries, as the country's agenda includes this product's access to the markets of Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Philippines, Honduras, Malaysia, VietNam, Thailand, India, Australia, and New Zealand.
