Peruvian company expects to make first shipment of pomegranates to US

Valle y Pampa became the first asparagus and blueberry farm in South America to have a Fairtrade certification and it is the first company in the world to produce pomegranate under this standard.

The company, which produces blueberries, asparagus, and pomegranates, expects to do the very first shipment of pomegranates to the US and is confident about developing further programs under this standard.

The Fair Trade USA criterion guarantees workers are paid fair wages, have the ability to organize and elect representatives, and that the company complies with health and safety standards, among others things. This means that Valle y Pampa will make additional efforts in order to increase the level of satisfaction and loyalty of its staff.

"Human resources will continue to be a bottleneck for agricultural operations, that situation will be more and more evident with the passing of time; our plan is to differentiate ourselves and be known as the best choice for the best people," said Juan Puga, the company's Commercial Manager.

Additional to this standard, Valle y Pampa has had other certifications for several years, such as Rainforest and Swig, all of which increasingly differentiate the company as a sustainable agricultural enterprise.
