Fresh Barhi dates from Jordan arrive early

Jordan's date harvest got off to an early start this year. The first shipment of Barhi dates arrived in Europe during the first week of August, which is about two weeks sooner that usual.

“The quality of dates being shipped is quite good,” said Armand Fabre. “They have good sugar content and are very crunchy.” The company ships their dates by air to most European countries, most notably England, Spain and Germany. The dates shipped by the company are grown at the edge of the Dead Sea.

The date harvest is expected to last through September, though, with adequate cold storage, fresh dates should be available into October. Armand noted that prices are around four or five Euro per kilogram when shipped by air, though he added that the company will send dates by sea as the season progresses.
