Iran reported exporting 390,000 tons of fresh dates, with a total value of $345 million, in the last Iranian calendar year, which spanned from March 21, 2023, to March 19, 2024, according to an official from the country's Ministry of Agriculture. Zahra Jalili-Moghaddam, the director-general for tropical and semi-tropical fruits at the ministry, noted a seven percent increase in the volume and a 10 percent rise in the value of fresh date exports compared to the previous year.
The production of dates in Iran also saw an uptick, rising to 1,658,560 tons from 1,596,790 tons, marking a four percent growth. Mohsen Rashid-Farrokhi, the chairman of the National Date Association of Iran, highlighted Iran's position as the third-largest producer of fresh dates in the world.
