William Lamarca, from Latin Lemon:

"Argentina: "Lemon prices have soared"

Argentina's lemon production continues to grow steadily. Even though this season's production will be lower than what was expected at the beginning of the season, the current weather conditions are favoring the harvest. "We have 30% fewer lemons than we thought we would have this season but we are harvesting high quality fruit and we think the production volume will be higher than in the last two years," said William Lamarca, from Latin Lemon.

The lack of Spanish lemons in the market has favored lemon prices in the southern hemisphere, which are experiencing a significant increase compared to previous years. "Due to the lack of volumes in Spain, our fruit's position is stronger than in other campaigns. Prices are at very high levels. Last year, we got 28 to 32 euro per box of 18 kilos, this year we are making 36 to 40 euro per box. The different product qualities mark a difference in price caps and All Lemon optimizes results with in origin controls," said Lamarca.

Additionally, the European market still buys 70% of Argentina's lemon exports, so getting new markets is, without doubt, among the exporters' options. "In recent years and despite the low volume they buy, Canada has become a good market. This campaign, we are starting to export to the Middle East and to Far East. We are very excited with the opening of the US market, we hope that we can start exporting to this markets starting next year. It would also be very important to achieve a breakthrough in the opening of the Chinese market," he said.
