Spain: Masiá Ciscar certifies entire strawberry acreage with Zerya

Fruit Attraction 2015 kicked off with major events; for instance, Masiá Ciscar used the fair as a stage to confirm the certification of 100% of its strawberry acreage under the ZERYA® Zero Waste Agriculture protocol, thus making it the first producer to undertake such as step and to include nearly 280 hectares in the certification scheme. The extension of the certification will be ratified as soon as the company undergoes its next scheduled audit in early 2016, and it is noteworthy that it has achieved this only two seasons after the start of the conversion period established by the Regulation. They assure that given the excellent results of the previous year in terms of quality, profitability and sustainability of certified farms, implementing the system in all farms was the next logical step.

"We are very pleased for Masiá Ciscar; they have always had a very strong position in the industry and were already doing a great job before implementing our system, but our regulations have given them an edge in terms of management and differentiation which has allowed them to consolidate all their improvements. We are very pleased and proud to see their progress; being pioneers always entails a great advantage," explains Javier Arizmendi, COO at Zerya.

"At Masiá Ciscar S.A., we wish to take another step forward in our production system, taking the food safety of our clients into account. We have had two years' experience to understand that with the right varieties we can control crop diseases in our fields, and with good management and auxiliary insects we can keep pests under reasonable thresholds. This double integration will allow us to certify our product with the guarantee of the Zerya brand, leading the way that we think will mark the future of the sector," concludes Enrique Masiá, CEO of Masiá Ciscar.
